Sonia’s Story: Powering Warmth, Hope, and Independence

A Life Interrupted by Power Outages

Sonia and her husband, Jose, both in their late 60s, have faced the harsh realities of living with disabilities in a world increasingly reliant on electricity. Sonia, a former Home Depot manager, and Jose, a retired warehouse worker, now grapple with arthritis and degenerative spinal conditions that make even the simplest tasks a challenge. Their home has become their sanctuary, but frequent power outages in Berwyn threatened their safety and comfort.

“The cold is unbearable for us,” Sonia shared. “When the power goes out, our arthritis flares up, and it feels like our home turns into an icebox.”

A Christmas Miracle: The OUPES 600 Arrives

In December 2024, Sonia reached out to the OUPES Help program, seeking a solution to their energy insecurity. Later, Sonia and Jose received an OUPES 600W Power Station paired with a 100W Solar Panel—a Christmas Eve delivery that brought tears of relief.

“It was a blessing,” Sonia wrote. “We charged it up, learned how to use it, and felt a sense of security we hadn’t known in years.”

How the OUPES 600 Changed Their Lives

The OUPES 600 became their lifeline during outages, powering essentials like:

  • Heating Pads: Easing the pain of arthritis and spinal conditions.

  • Small Fridge: Keeping medications and food fresh.

  • Lights: Providing comfort and safety during long, dark nights.

“We’re not running everything at once, but we don’t need to,” Sonia explained. “The OUPES gives us just enough to feel human again.”

A Message of Gratitude and Resilience

Sonia and Jose’s story is a testament to the power of community and innovation. Their journey from vulnerability to empowerment reflects the mission of the OUPES Help program: to provide sustainable energy solutions for those in need.

“Thank you doesn’t even begin to cover it,” Sonia wrote. “This isn’t just a machine—it’s a lifeline.”
