Can I connect third-party solar panels to OUPES? How can I check their compatibility and the panel limits?
Yes, there are many third-party solar panels compatible with OUPES power stations. For safety, you need to ensure that the Open Circuit voltage(abbreviated as OCV or VoC) of the panel(s) does not exceed the voltage range of your power station. In addition, you want to look for panel(s) that will deliver the maximum amperage your power station can input. A power station will not be harmed if the panel current exceeds the input limit of the power station because the power station will only draw the amperage it can use. However, exceeding the OCV of the power station will cause damage to the solar controller.
For example, the solar input of the Mega 1 is 12-80V, with a maximum current of 14 amps, delivering up to 800 watts of solar input. Our 240W solar panel has a OCV of 24.6 volts and can deliver up to 12.3 amps of current for a total potential power of 240 watts. Putting 3 of them together in series will increase the OCV to 74 volts(24.6V*3=73.8V) while maintaining the 12.3 amps of current, for a total potential power of 720 watts. With this setup, you would be able to charge the Mega 1 in under 2 hours (in ideal sun conditions). However, you could not add a fourth 240W solar panel in series because that would exceed the voltage input limit of the Mega 1, potentially causing damage to the solar controller.
After purchasing an OUPES power station, do I need to buy additional cables for connection?
All of OUPES power stations come with the cables that you need for variety of charging methods.
However, if you have other needs such as:
- If you want to extend the distance of the AC charging cable, then you need to buy our AC charging extension cable
- If you want to extend the distance of your solar panel charging cable, then you need to buy our solar panel charging extension cable
- If you want to change our solar panels from the default series connection to parallel connection, then you need to purchase our parallel connection cable
